Bart Township Fire Company - Lancaster County, PA

Squad 5-1 Original 1989 Suburban still in operation.

Organized fire protection came to Bart Township in 1946 when 38 residents met at the Bart High School to organize a fire company. The company serves all of the residents of Bart Township and portions of Sadsbury, Colerain, Eden and Paradise townships.

In 1982, a group of men & women became certified as EMT's (Emergency Medical Technicians).  Those EMT's then certified their old 1974 Ford Squad  as Basic Life Support (BLS) unit with the PA State Department of Health.

They were the 1st organization in Lancaster County to establish this Q.R.S. service. Since they do not provide an ambulance service to their area, their QRS is dispatched with the Ambulance and Medic Unit.  They typically arrive before the ambulance and medics, thus starting basic life support treatments immediately until the other units arrive.
In 1989, they purchased a Chevy Suburban / Conversion by Odyssey to replace their aging 1974 Swab Rescue.  The unit was designated as Squad-Q.R.S. 5-1. In 1997, they purchased an AED (automated external defibrillator) for the QRS.  They have approximately 12 active EMT's.
